UK Dance Music Festivals
Where the UK's established dance and electronic festivals take place, what each is known for, and the age rules to check before buying.
The UK's best-known dance music festivals run between June and the August bank holiday, from Parklife in a Manchester park to Creamfields in Cheshire, and almost all of them are for adults only. Age rules differ from one event to the next, so check each festival's official site before you buy.

The big-name over-18s
Creamfields grew out of Cream, the Liverpool club night, and was first held in 1998. It has been at Daresbury in Cheshire since 2006 and runs over the August bank holiday weekend. It is strictly an 18s-and-over event, with a Challenge 21 policy at entrances and bars and spot checks around the site, so bring accepted photo ID such as a passport, a driving licence or a PASS card.
Boomtown runs in August on the Matterley Estate near Winchester, on the western edge of the South Downs National Park. It builds a themed, immersive world across a natural amphitheatre, woodland and fields, and it is an over-18s event.
The Manchester exception
Parklife, held in Heaton Park in Manchester each June, sets itself apart from the many UK dance events that limit attendance to 18+. Attendees must be 17 or over, 17-year-olds must be accompanied by a responsible adult, and there is a maximum of four under-18s per adult.
Smaller, more specialist weekends
Houghton takes place each August on the Houghton estate in Norfolk and is known for long DJ sets, bespoke sound systems and art installations. It holds a 24-hour music licence, so music plays somewhere on site around the clock, and there is strictly no entry for under-18s. Lost Village fills a woodland site near Norton Disney in Lincolnshire over the August bank holiday weekend, mixing music with comedy, workshops and food; it is 18+ with valid photo ID.
